Direct Domestic Trade

Buying and selling within the UAE market directly — structured around the free zone and mainland rules that decide how goods can actually move and be sold.

What is direct domestic trade?

Direct domestic trade is buying and selling goods within the UAE market rather than across borders. Wisemann Capital sources and supplies commodities to UAE buyers directly, structuring each trade around free zone and mainland licensing, the customs treatment of goods moving between them, VAT, local logistics and the credit terms domestic counterparties expect.

Why domestic trade needs structuring

Trading inside the UAE looks simpler than trading across borders, and in one respect it is not. The UAE draws a real line between its free zones and the mainland. Goods crossing from a free zone into the mainland clear customs as they cross, and selling into the mainland market generally requires a party licensed to do so.

Getting that structure right at the start is what separates a domestic trade that runs cleanly from one that stalls at a customs point or a licensing question. The commercial terms are the easy part; the route the goods take is where the work sits.

How a trade runs

  1. Requirement and route

We establish what is needed, where it is coming from and where it has to be delivered — free zone to free zone, free zone to mainland, or within the mainland — because each route carries different customs and licensing treatment.

  2. Sourcing and specification

Product is sourced against an agreed specification, with quality and quantity certified before delivery rather than disputed after it.

  3. Licensing and customs movement

Where goods cross from a free zone into the mainland, the movement is structured through the appropriately licensed parties and cleared at the crossing, so the trade does not depend on an assumption about who may sell what.

  4. Commercial and credit terms

Pricing, VAT treatment, payment terms and any credit extended to the buyer are agreed together, and documented so that invoicing and payment follow the goods cleanly.

  5. Delivery and settlement

Local logistics, delivery and proof of delivery are coordinated through to the buyer, and settlement follows the agreed terms.

What we manage on your behalf

  • Free zone and mainland treatment

The route goods take between free zones and the mainland determines customs treatment and who may sell them. It is settled before contracting, not discovered at a checkpoint.

  • VAT and invoicing

VAT treatment depends on the parties and the route. It is built into pricing and invoicing from the outset so margins are not eroded by a correction later.

  • Counterparty credit

Domestic buyers often expect credit terms. Counterparty standing is assessed before terms are extended, and exposure is limited to what the relationship supports.

  • Local logistics

Warehousing, transport and delivery within the UAE are coordinated to the buyer's schedule, with proof of delivery documented for settlement.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Can a free zone company sell directly into the UAE mainland?

Generally not directly without the appropriate licensing or a licensed intermediary, and goods moving from a free zone into the mainland clear customs as they cross. The right structure depends on the goods and the parties involved, which is why the route is settled before a domestic trade is contracted.

Is VAT charged on domestic commodity trades?

The UAE applies VAT, and the treatment depends on the parties, the goods and whether the supply takes place within designated zones or the mainland. It is confirmed for each trade and built into pricing, rather than assumed.

Do you offer credit terms to domestic buyers?

Where the buyer's standing supports it. Counterparty checks come first, and any credit extended is sized to the relationship. Terms are agreed and documented before delivery.

Which commodities can be traded domestically?

The same range traded internationally — energy, metals, fertiliser inputs and agricultural commodities — subject to the licensing and customs rules for each. See Commodity Trading for the full list.
